Medical Imaging

Digital X-Rays

When your pet needs an X-ray, we know that you want the safest option. We agree! We also want X-rays that make it easiest to diagnose issues for your pet. Here at Kanan Veterinary Hospital, we are proud to offer state-of-the-art digital radiography.

A Digital X-ray is fast, high resolution, and can be used to help us assess or diagnose a variety of issues. We may recommend taking an X-ray for one of the following:

  • To assess your pet's dental health including teeth and jawbones
  • To check for bone fractures or injuries related to trauma
  • To look for an ingested foreign object
  • To find or rule out tumors

In addition to using X-rays to diagnose issues, they can also be used to monitor a variety of issues including pneumonia, heart conditions, and cancer.

Dental X-Rays

Dental X-rays are an essential part of your pet’s dental care. They allow us to see the health of your pet’s teeth and gums below the surface, where problems often go unnoticed. Digital dental X-rays help us identify issues such as tooth decay, periodontal disease, and root infections that may not be visible during a routine oral exam.

Ultrasounds

Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses sound waves to create real-time images of your pet’s internal organs. This safe and painless procedure allows our veterinarians to examine the heart, liver, kidneys, and other soft tissues in great detail. Ultrasounds are especially useful for diagnosing conditions such as tumors, cysts, and organ abnormalities, as well as monitoring pregnancies. By providing valuable information without the need for surgery, ultrasounds help us make accurate diagnoses and develop effective treatment plans for your pet.

CT Scans

CT scans, or computed tomography scans, are advanced imaging techniques that provide detailed cross-sectional images of your pet’s body. This non-invasive procedure combines X-ray technology with computer processing to create high-resolution images of internal structures. CT scans are particularly useful for diagnosing complex conditions, such as orthopedic defects, tumors, internal injuries, and certain neurological disorders. By offering a more comprehensive view of your pet’s anatomy, CT scans help our veterinarians make accurate diagnoses and develop effective treatment plans.

Electrocardiograms

A pet Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a common and safe diagnostic tool that veterinarians use to evaluate the heart of an animal. The ECG records electrical impulses from your pet’s heart. This painless test provides us with valuable information that can be used to determine important treatments for your pet.

As your pet’s trusted doctor, if we are recommending an ECG, we understand that you are concerned. Please understand that this doesn’t necessarily mean your pet has a serious cardiac issue. An ECG may be recommended for a number of reasons including:

  • Difficult-to-Hear or Irregular Heart Rhythm
  • Monitoring of Certain Medications
  • In Preparation for General Anesthesia
  • Fainting or Respiratory Symptoms
  • Confirmation of an Imaging Diagnosis

We look forward to hearing from you, and we are happy to help with any questions or concerns you might have about pet electrocardiograms in Oak Park. We are committed to providing the best care for your beloved pet. Schedule your appointment today. Call us at 818-532-7434 today.
